Golf Association of Ontario Celebrates National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week (April 21-27) is a wonderful opportunity for us to reflect on the outstanding commitment and passion that our GAO volunteers demonstrate throughout the year. On behalf of the GAO’s Board of Directors, members, and staff, I would like to express our gratitude to this tremendous community of volunteers from right across the province for your efforts in supporting our Association and helping to grow the game of golf in Ontario.

The over 450 dedicated individuals that give their time to the GAO are true ambassadors for amateur golf in this province. You are the face of our Association, making our district and provincial championships run smoothly from start to finish, spending countless hours rating courses at clubs across the province, organizing district and club events, leading rules seminars, serving on our Board and committees, and representing the GAO in the golf community.   Without the support of our volunteers, many of our programs would not be possible and the GAO would not be the strong and successful organization that it is today. Thank you for everything that you do.

As part the National Volunteer Week recognition of our volunteers, we are going to draw the names of four GAO volunteers to join us at Wooden Sticks Golf Club on May 8th for a day of golf prior to the Hall of Fame ceremony. This day will include lunch, 18 holes of golf and dinner alongside a number of Hall of Fame members and those that will be inducted in 2013; Ian Leggatt, Rod Spittle, Jack Marks, Alexa Stirling Fraser and Gord Witteveen.

Once again, my sincerest thanks to each and every one of you for helping us grow the game of golf in Ontario.

Jim King

President, Golf Association of Ontario
