Dan Keogh and Bill Hutcheson Win Ontario Men’s Better Ball Title

Downsview, ON – The Golf Association of Ontario’s 2013 provincial tournament season got under way on Wednesday with Dan Keogh of Toronto and Bill Hutcheson of Aurora winning the Ontario Men’s Better Ball championship in a playoff at Oakdale Golf and Country Club.

Keogh and Hutcheson closed out their round with a team score of 65 (-7), tied with Waterloo’s David Bigelow and Scarborough resident Mark Young. The foursome headed back to the course to determine the 2013 champions, with Keogh and Hutcheson delivering a birdie on the first playoff hole to come out on top.

It was the first Ontario Better-Ball title for Keogh, a former Canadian Tour player and Hutcheson, who earned the Ontario Amateur title in 1995. The pair are members of the National Golf Club of Canada.

Bigelow and Young, both GAO Public Players and members of the McMaster Marauders men’s golf team earned runner-up honours, while Luke Moser of Waterloo and Keaton Jones of Kitchener tied for third place alongside London residents Andrew Tomchuk and Adam Auger.

The Ontario Men’s Better Ball Championship was contested for the 54th time in 2013 with 52 teams taking to the course on Wednesday. First conducted in 1959, the inaugural event was won by Gary Cowan and partner Ernie Hauser who went on to win the event again in 1960 and 30 years later in 1990. The event has continued to draw some of the best talent in Ontario year after year, including 2003 Masters Champion Mike Weir who won the event in 1988 with partner Brennan Little.
