Team Ontario Wins 2013 Ada Mackenzie Matches

Rochester, NY – Ontario’s top senior women won the Ada Mackenzie Matches this week in a tight two point victory over the team from Upper New York State.

The format for the competition consists of two rounds of matches; the first day is a Chapman format team competition with one point awarded for a win and a half point awarded for a halved match. The second day is a better-ball team match play format with a single point awarded for the front nine, one for the back nine, and one point for the overall match result.

The event took place at Brook-Lea Country Club in Rochester, NY, a historic Donald Ross course built in 1926. The 2013 competition was one of the closest in recent memory, with the teams finishing in a tie after the first day. On day two, the lead bounced back and forth before the New York team gained a one point lead with the final match still on the course. The team of Chris Critelli came through with three points in the final match to secure the win for Ontario.

Established in 1960, the Ada Mackenzie Matches are an annual two-day senior women’s match play event for Ontario’s top ten senior women’s golfers to take on the top players from Upper New York State. Team Ontario is comprised of the top ten eligible finishers from the previous year’s Ontario Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.
