June 4, 2013

Belleville, ON  – St. Marys, Ontario resident Rich Parsons carded a solid one-under par 71 on Tuesday to earn the Ontario Senior Men’s Champion of Champions title at Black Bear Ridge Golf Course near Belleville.

Parsons, who represents St. Marys Golf and Country Club, topped the field of 69 senior men’s club champions from across the province by a single stroke in his rookie year of eligibility for the tournament. The 55-year old was the only competitor to come in under par on the challenging course, and also earns an exemption into the 2013 Ontario Senior Men’s Amateur championship, set to take place July 23-25 at Sunningdale Golf and Country Club.

Two competitors from Oakville shared second place; 2012 runner-up Lars Melander of Hidden Lake Golf and Country Club and Larry Cooper of Mississaugua Golf and Country Club. Both golfers finished the tournament at 72, even par.

Sault Ste. Marie resident Richard Evoy of the Sault Ste. Marie Golf Club finished alone in fourth place, two strokes back at 73 (+1), while defending champion Michael Jackson of Georgian Bay Club closed out the event in fifth place at 74 (+2).

The Ontario Senior Men’s Champion of Champions was first contested in 1970 and features senior men’s club champions age 55 and over from Golf Association of Ontario member clubs across the province. The Golf Association of Ontario would like to thank Black Bear Ridge Golf Course for hosting the event and for their support of amateur golf in Ontario.
