Sophie Kitchen Wins Toronto Star Women’s Amateur

Barrie, ON – Team Ontario’s Sophie Kitchen of Collingwood outlasted the field to win the Toronto Star Women’s Amateur title in a 2 and 1 victory over former Team Ontario member Vivian Tsui of Markham.

Kitchen, who plays out of Blue Mountain Golf and Country Club, made five birdies in the final round and overcame a one-hole deficit at the turn to hoist the trophy. The 18-year-old earned a berth in the finals after defeating LaSalle’s Laura DeMarco and Richmond Hill’s Alina Rogers before taking down London’s Corey Crossnan to square off against Tsui.

Crossnan upset number one seed Brogan McKinnon of Mississauga, who broke the Barrie Country Club competitive course record (70) twice in as many days, shooting 65-69 in the stroke play portion of the competition.

In the lower seeded First Flight, Whitby’s Maya Parsons defeated Richmond Hill’s Grace Chung 3 and 2.
