Several athletes from Ontario have been selected to represent Team Canada as part of the 2014 National Amateur Golf Team, and former Team Ontario members Tony Gil of Vaughan and Carter Simon of Sutton have been named to the Development Squad program.

In all, 10 athletes comprise Team Canada’s National Amateur Squad, including five players on both the men and women’s teams with four returning members on each roster.

Returning to the men’s squad is veteran member Garrett Rank, 26, of Elmira, Ont., as well as Taylor Pendrith, 22, of Richmond Hill, Ont., Corey Conners, 21, of Listowel, Ont., and Chris Hemmerich, 20, of Kitchener, Ont.  Joining the four returning members is Surrey, B.C., native Adam Svensson, 19, who makes the jump to the National Squad after three seasons on the Development Squad.

On the women’s side, Brooke Henderson, 16, of Smiths Falls, Ont., returns to the National Team alongside NC State University teammates Brittany Marchand, 21, of Orangeville, Ont., and Augusta James, 20, of Bath, Ont. Former National Squad member, Anne-Catherine Tanguay, 22, of Quebec City also rejoins the team after a two-year absence alongside Jennifer Ha, 19, of Calgary.

“We are very excited about the group of young men and women selected as members of Team Canada for 2014,” said Jeff Thompson, Golf Canada’s Chief Sport Officer. “It is our mandate to invest in competitive excellence within the sport. Selecting players for this program is always a difficult task as the quality of players in Canada is improving each year. Having said this, we have no doubt that the athletes selected will represent Canada to the best of their abilities and we look forward to assisting them in achieving their goals.”
