Uxbridge, ON – Welcoming back the highly anticipated Ontario Provincial Super Camp after a successful launch in 2020, the second annual event will be hosted by the formidable Ambassador Golf Club in Windsor from October 4th to 8th. The camp will feature the top 65 junior boys and girls in the province for two days of testing (Golf Canada’s National Testing Protocols), a mental session, and three rounds of competition.
The five-day camp will give athletes a chance to train with other like-minded athletes and coaches, gain useful NTP data for themselves and other top athletes, and receive an introduction to the mental side of the game with Sport Psychologist Dr. Charles Fitzsimmons. The first two days will be focused on testing, a rules session, and mental training, with three days of competition to follow. This event is intended to be both a fun and competitive culmination of the season.
The 2021 event will have on-site activations with companies promoting products, and doing giveaways and contests. TaylorMade will be hosting a wedge station and handing out prizes, while Lululemon has a mindfulness station and yoga session scheduled. Following the two days of testing, TaylorMade has sponsored a Cookout with live music by Matthew Leon, on the patio at Ambassador GC on Tuesday evening.
Introducing the 2021 Ontario Tour Championship this year, athletes will compete over 54-holes of championship stroke play. Originally a four-day event in 2020, adding an additional day to the event in 2021 will allow for three rounds of Tour Championship play. The 65 top junior boys and girls invited to and competing at the 2021 Ontario Provincial Super Camp have earned their spot in the Tour Championship based on the Junior Golf Pathway Rankings. “The exciting part about this year, is that the American Junior Golf Association is giving out a fully exempt status for the top two boys and girls in the U19 and U17 divisions at the end of this championship”, explained Reggie Millage, Head Provincial Coach of Team Ontario.
Moving forward, competitors of the annual Ontario Provincial Super Camp and Tour Championship will be battling for the Dave Mills trophy. The trophy has been named in honour of Mills, a past Golf Ontario Executive Director and huge supporter and advocate for junior golf, who presented the first ever Super Camp trophy in 2020. Gravenhurst, ON – Even colder conditions greeted competitors for the final round of the 2021 Ontario Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship, at the gorgeous Taboo Muskoka. The temperature may not have risen, but the competition absolutely did, as we would see a champion crowned only after playoff holes.
Walking away after two extra holes, is now four-time winner of the Ontario Men’s Mid-Amateur, Dave Bunker (Cherry Hill Club), with a solid even par on the final day (71). Jonn Drewery (Westmount G&CC) shot a two-over (73), and would eventually miss a difficult par putt save on the second extra hole to secure the win to Bunker. The bronze medal was won by our 36-hole leader Brett Mitchell (Galt Country Club), after shooting a four-over (75). Round of the day belonged to Robert McCraken, who fired a brilliant four-under (67) to climb the leaderboard into fourth place.
Bunker, who also claims the Mid-Master category (40+) with the win, expressed great pleasure in his play. “I played well today, with only one hole mistake. It’s nice to win something, as I’ve played well the last month and a half, with the worst I’ve finished was top four.” Describing his steady play on a challenging course while guys stumbled around him, Bunker noted “I know it’s a difficult course and anything can happen, if you keep going and not lose your focus an even par or one-under can win it”.
Bunked thanked his wife most importantly for her patience and understanding as he’s had a very busy past five weeks. “She’s been very patient with me, it’ll be nice to be home for a while and she’s coming with me to California for my future golf in two weeks”.
Golf Ontario would like to thank the players, rules officials, staff and members for their support of the 2021 Ontario Men’s Mid-Am Championship. To Taboo Muskoka and your team, thank you sincerely for being such amazing hosts and welcoming us for another championship this season.
Lastly, a huge thank you to our sponsors and partners; Adidas, TaylorMade, Golf Talk Canada, Play Golf Myrtle Beach, Humber College, HUB International, BioSteel, Golf Genius, Modern Golf, Dormie, Durham Artificial Grass, Foresight Sports Canada, Baka, Nikon, Solo Golf, and Sport Travel. Brampton, ON – In dual coverage of action for today’s championships, the Ontario Senior Men’s Better-Ball Championship took to the prestigious course at Brampton Golf Club for an 8:00 a.m. start this morning. With just 18-holes of competitive stroke play to determine the 2021 champions, the Toronto Golf Club’s David Wilson and Eamonn McConnell come out on top.
Taking home the championship title with a stellar round of 67, Wilson and McConnell battled the field to win just one-stroke ahead of a tight leaderboard. Silver medalists, Jay Campbell and Scott Hepburn (Oaks G&CC) held off a pack of third place winners with a smooth three-under 68 total. In the bronze medalist position we had a tie between six teams, consisting of the following; Phil Charal and Tony Robinson (Summit G&CC), Gawain Robertson and Jack Moussaoui (Cataraqui G&CC), Mark Kalbfleisch and Brad Stumpf (Oshawa G&CC), John Saffran and John Zdonek (Pointe West GC), Brian Humphrys and Rick Robinson (The Pulpit Club), and Bruno Ardito and Gary Parker (Brampton GC Ltd.).
In the post win interview, Wilson expressed that the win “feels amazing considering I grew up here at Brampton. I worked here as a kid, played a thousand rounds of golf, and left a number of years ago, so it was a real thrill to come back with my good friend Eamonn. We got it around with a good ‘ham and egg’ today.” McConnell added “it was my first time playing Brampton, so it was a real treat. It’s a great golf course and we both played really well. I was in the water twice, while David’s putting for birdie. We just played really well that way, where one of us was in good shape on just about every hole. We made some good putts, had four birdies, no bogeys which is the key to the game, and we just played solid golf. It was fun!” Representing the Toronto Golf Club, McConnell expressed that while playing a lot of individual golf, “it’s great to play as teammates. Our reaction today was definitely a little surprised.” Wilson concluded the interviewing by adding “I’m especially happy because, as we just joked earlier, this is my rookie year as a senior, just having turned fifty-five last year. It’s really special coming here with my good friend to represent Toronto GC and have that bridge between my history here at Brampton, and taking the trophy home to our home club.”
Golf Ontario would like to thank the players, rules officials, staff and members for their support of the 2021 Ontario Senior Men’s Better-Ball Championship. To Brampton Golf Club and your team – General Manager Boris Uvakov, Head Golf Professional Patrick Yashar, Course Superintendent Martin Kopp, Manager of Clubhouse Operations/ Membership Relations & Sales Ian Hogg, Executive Chef Anthony Mart, and Food & Beverage Manager Narender Bist – Thank you for being such amazing hosts and welcoming us during your centennial anniversary year.

Gravenhurst, ON – Chilly blue skies welcomed back golfers to round two of the 2021 Ontario Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship, at the beautiful Taboo Muskoka. Temperatures rose slightly through the day, as did the wind at times, forcing competitors to work for opportunities to climb the leaderboard on moving day.
Hanging on to the lead once again after 36 holes with a solid one-over par on the day (73) is Brett Mitchell (Galt Country Club). Mitchell started off on fire with three birdies on his first ten holes but unfortunately stumbled down the stretch with four bogeys and a double-bogey. Also sitting alone in second again with a one-over (73) for the day is Jonn Drewery (Westmount G&CC). Climbing the leaderboard ranks with a three-under (69) was both Will Mitchell (Oshawa G&CC) and three-time Men’s Mid-Am Champion Dave Bunker (Cherry Hill Club). Drewery sits even par after two rounds, while Bunker sits at one-over. Low round of the day belongs to Eric Pattenaude (Sarnia G&CC),who recorded a stellar three-under (68) to find himself in fifth place alongside Scott Rutgers (Pointe West GC) and Josh Hunke (Deer Ridge GC).
Golf Ontario will also recognize the Mid-Master (40+) Champion after tomorrow’s final round. For this section, Drewery currently leads the group with a score of -1 with Bunker two strokes back.

Thornton, ON – Greeted by fog and a misting of rain, the final round of the 2021 Ontario Junior (U19) Boys’ and Girls’ Match Play Championship got underway at 8:00 a.m. today, with two Team Ontario athletes claiming the titles. Owen Kim (Blue Springs GC) and Alissa Xu (Station Creek GC) conquered the challenging Tangle Creek Golf and Country Club while enduring less than ideal weather conditions, for a total of 108 (90) holes of golf over three days.
The Semi-Final round teed off at 8:00 a.m. this morning, with Luke Smith (The Thornhill Club), Ethan Irvine (Hamilton G&CC), Andreas Diogenous (Whistle Bear), and Owen Kim (Blue Springs GC) fighting for a spot in the final round. In a well fought battle, bronze medals would be awarded to Smith and Diogenous. Irvine took Smith in 2&1 to advance to the final round, while the other Boys’ match would continue to five playoff holes. Kim went head-to-head against Team Ontario teammate, Andreas Diogenous (Whistle Bear), to come out on top. In the final round, Irvine and Kim were even at the turn, with Kim winning two holes on the back nine to take the title 2&1.
Taking home his third 2021 Ontario Championship title, Kim said “I knew going in that I didn’t want to be too aggressive. I didn’t want to go birdie hunting, I just tried to make as many pars as I could and it worked out.” Over the three days of competition, Kim agreed that day two was the most challenging weather wise, but commented that he “was able to stay dry, and hit decent shots to the green to make par.” Since our last interview with Kim at the Ontario Juvenile Boys’ Championship, he’s participated in the National Junior Selection Camp. He added that “I thought it was pretty cool seeing meeting all the coaches for Golf Canada out there and just being able to play with the best players in Canada. Just being there was a really cool experience.”
The first Girls’ Semi-Final match of the day took place at 8:16 a.m., against Team Ontario teammates, Alissa Xu (Blue Springs GC) and Sarah Gallagher (Blue Springs GC). Xu would take Gallagher 2&1 to move through to the Final round. The second semi-final match occurred between Myranda Quinton (Blue Springs GC) and Lindsay McGrath (Rattlesnake Point GC), which would go into four playoff holes with Quinton taking the win in a sudden death defeat. The final match of the day would be won by Xu, with an impressive 6&4 takedown over Quinton.
Claiming her first Ontario Championship win, Xu said “it feels really good! I think it’s a great stepping stone for me.” She also added, “the weather was tough. I played pretty well, as I felt like I was stable out there which is very important in this kind weather.” When asked what the strongest part of her game was, Xu commented that “I think my putting was really good. I made a lot of clutch putts.” Having a strong 2021 season, Xu qualified for the USGA Junior Girls Championship earlier this summer and experienced her first year on Team Ontario. Both Owen Kim and Alissa Xu will be attending the Provincial Super Camp and Ontario Tour Championship at Ambassador Golf Club from October 4th to 8th.
Golf Ontario would like to thank the players, rules officials, and staff for their support of the 2021 Ontario Junior (U19) Match Play Championship. To Tangle Creek Golf and Country Club and your team – General Manager & Managing Partner Richard Edmonds, Superintendent Mike McDevitt, F&B Manager & Managing Partner Andrew North, Executive Chef Ian Brown, and Golf Services Manager Amy McDevitt – Thank you for being such amazing hosts through these three days of challenging weather conditions.

Thornton, ON – The weather was not in our favour for day two of the 2021 Ontario Junior (U19) Boys’ and Girls’ Match Play Championship. With heavy rain through the night, we were extremely lucky to have playable conditions today at Tangle Creek G&CC. Throughout 36-holes of golf for both the boys and girls, the rain continued and the temperature decreased, creating challenging conditions for the Round of 16 and Quarter-Final round.
The action got underway at 8:00 a.m. with the Boys Match Play taking to the course first for the Round of 16. The Quarter-Final round took to the course at 1:00 p.m., with players continuing to battle the weather conditions. Making it through to the Semi-Final round is Luke Smith (The Thornhill Club), Ethan Irvine (Hamilton G&CC), Andreas Diogenous (Whistle Bear GC), and Owen Kim (Blue Springs GC). Kim has won both the Ontario Juvenile Boys and Ontario Junior Boys Spring Classic Championship in 2021, while Diogenous is Kim’s teammate on Team Ontario and Smith claimed runner-up at the 2021 Ontario Bantam (U15) Boys Championship.
The Girls Match Play teed off at 9:04 a.m., with the Round of 16 taking place first. Weather conditions made for a slow round, pushing the Quarter-Final round to 2:05 p.m.. The girls had to hustle in the Round of 8 as the final match got underway at 3:06 p.m.. Thornhill, ON — Summer like conditions welcomed 68 players in teams of two at the Ladies GC of Toronto for the 67th annual Ontario Women’s Four-Ball Championship. With warm weather came hot play, and the day proved to be competitive just like most years in the past.
After 18 however, it was Aryn Matthews (Bigwin Island GC) and Nyah Kelly (Lindsay G&CC) who prevailed. The duo finished the tournament with an impressive six-under (65), including 7 birdies on their card to leave as four-ball champions.
“We came out hoping to just have a good time,” said Kelly. “We ended up playing really well and having lots of fun”. Matthews ended, “I feel like together we make a good team and encouraged each other. We both made good approach shots throughout the round.”
Trailing just two strokes behind in second place, was Sarah Yang and Michelle P. Ding (both of Station Creek GC), who recorded a solid four-under (67). Finishing in third was the duo of Emily Zhu (Public Player) and Cynthia Zhao (Station Creek GC), after firing a three-under (68).
As for the Low Net portion of the tournament, it was the team of Angela Penfound and Gail Bishop (Midland G&CC) who came out on top after a three-hole playoff against fellow club players Susan Rooney and Mary Sallinen, also of Midland G&CC.
