Melancthon, ON – As we now find ourselves later into August, we’ve reached the halfway point of our 2020 championship season. Teeing off from August 18th to 21st at Shelburne Golf and Country Club, we welcome the Ontario Junior (U19) Girls’ Championship. Golf Ontario will also recognize the Ontario Juvenile (U17) Girls’ Champion at this competition.
The picturesque semi-private, 18-hole golf course, is located on the western edge of the Niagara Escarpment. Professionally designed, the course plays over silica sand bunkers and six spring-fed ponds to provide a challenge for golfers of all levels. With course enhancements made over the last few years, nine new tee decks have added 230 yards to the course to create more of a challenge. Players will also enjoy one of the finest practice facilities in Southern Ontario, with a 10,000 square foot putting and chipping green, practice bunker, and a one third of an acre grassed tee area with strategically place target greens.
Due to a limitation to field sizes with Golf Ontario safety protocols, a maximum of 99 players will be competing for the title. The field is expected to be very strong, with winners of the Ontario Bantam Girls’ Championship Alyssa DiMarcantonio (Weston G&CC), Raesa Sheikh (TPC at Osprey Valley), and Alex Ouellet (Weston G&CC), battling for the chance to capture another title. Also attending the championship are the 2017 and 2018 Ontario Peewee Girls’ Champions, Isabella Ferguson (Kanata G&CC) and Vanessa Borovilos (Weston G&CC). Team Ontario members to keep an eye on include: Bo Brown (Blue Springs GC), Katie Cranston (Oakville GC), Nicole Gal (Oakville GC), Sarah Gallagher (Blue Springs GC), Alexis McMurray (Glen Abbey GC), and Ella Weber (Rattlesnake Point GC).
We are also excited to have introduced a Front Line Workers donation program this year as part of our registration process, to give back to the local communities we will be playing in. The Front Line Workers donations from the Ontario Junior (U19) Girls’ Championship will be donated to the Headwaters Health Care Foundation.

About The Ontario Junior (U19) Girls’ Championship
First contested in 1927, the Ontario Junior (U19) Girls’ Championship features Ontario’s best amateur female golfers age 18 and under. The event consists of 72 holes of stroke play competition.
The championship has a rich history of young Ontarians who have gone on to have successful golf careers, such as World Golf Hall of Fame member Marlene Stewart Streit (1951, 1952). Other notable winners include, Sandra Post (1965, 1966), Sue Hilton (1962), Alena Sharp (1997, 1998), Jessica Shepley (2001), Jennifer Kirby (2008, 2009), and Brooke Henderson (2011, 2012).
Key Provincial Competitions Protocols/Restrictions (subject to change)
- No caddies permitted. (all events)
- No spectators, including coaches and media, permitted. (**Exception: Players 18 & Under may have one accompanying adult)
- No motorized carts permitted. (**Exception: Single rider carts only for Senior & Disability Championships)
- All events will be a single tee start – no shotguns or split tees.
- Restricted field numbers. (see individual championships)
- Qualifiers will have limited field sizes. Entries will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.
