Tecumseh, ON – Under hot and humid conditions, round one of the 99th Ontario Men’s Amateur Championship presented by TD Brazier/Dupuis Wealth Management, got underway at the 100-year-old Beach Grove Golf and Country Club. The field of 114 players came out sharp, as they looked to make early moves on the leaderboard.
Leading the pack after the first round in a two-way tie is Nicholas Hofland (Hamilton G&CC) and Charles Fitzsimmons (St. Thomas G&CC). Both shooting three-under, Hofland sunk an eagle on eighteen while Fitzsimmons fired six birdies. Trailing just one stroke back is a pack of players tied in third, all completing a round of 69. The group of six in T3 contains Eric Yun (Station Creek GC), Jaret Chipman (Cherry Hill Club), Simon McInnis (Rebel Creek GC), Cam Kellet (St. Thomas G&CC), Connor Rochon (Weston G&CC), and Bavake Sihota (TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley).
Round two will be vital for competitors as they look to make the cut of 48 plus ties before round three. Catch action from the championship tomorrow at 7:30 a.m.. Uxbridge, ON – Celebrating its centennial anniversary in 2021, Beach Grove Golf and Country Club will host arguably the most prestigious event in the country from August 10th to 13th. Welcoming a field of 114 players, the 99th Ontario Men’s Amateur Championship presented by TD Brazier/Dupuis Wealth Management will take to the course in Windsor as the best male amateur players battle for the crown.
To honour their 100th anniversary, Beach Grove has had a strong calendar of events scheduled for its members all year, with the Men’s Amateur adding to the celebrations. General Manager, Aidan Blunt, commented that “it’ll be a good test for everybody. Obviously, with it being one-hundred years old, it’s not as long as some of the modern golf courses. Having said that, the greens are not easy to read and they are small, so if you miss it, an up and down is going to be a challenge.” The course is in great condition, as Blunt added that “we’re growing the rough on the fairways and around the greens. The greens will be fast, as they’ll be double cut and rolled each day. It’s a Stanley Thompson design, with tree-lined tight fairways, and small greens. It’s just the collective nature of the course that will present a challenge. It will suit the type of golfer that can think their way around the course and play strategically.” As the championship is presented by title sponsor TD Brazier/Dupuis Wealth Management, Beach Grove has also brought on several supporting sponsors. The 2021 Ontario Men’s Amateur Championship will see athletes from the following qualifiers in attendance: Tangle Creek G&CC, Baxter Creek GC, King’s Forest GC, Shelburne G&CC, Lively GC, Upper Canada GC, Grand Niagara GC, and Ambassador GC. For leaderboard information on qualifiers, click the golf course name. The first two rounds of stroke play will host the full field, with cuts being made after 36 holes with the low 48 scores and ties moving forward to compete in rounds three and four.
Returning to defend his title, the 2020 Ontario Men’s Amateur Champion and National Amateur Squad Member, Cougar Collins (Rocky Crest GC), will be in attendance competing against fellow Team Canada golf athlete Ashton McCulloch (Cataraqui G&CC). McCulloch, a National Junior Squad Member, has had a shinning start to his 2021 season with a first-place finish at the Glencoe Invitational and the British Columbia Men’s Amateur Championship. Additional reigning Golf Ontario champions in attendance include Dave Bunker of Cherry Hill Club and Chares Fitzsimmons of St. Thomas G&CC.

Brockville, ON – With temperatures reaching the mid-twenties at Brockville Country Club today, the players battled to be crowned the 2021 Ontario Junior (U19) Girls’ Champion. Following round three, the leaderboard was tight with just eleven girls sitting within a ten-stroke difference. In the final round, the leader groups pulled away from the pack to present a true champion.
Firing her lowest round and the only under-par score of the tournament, is the newly crowned Ontario Junior Girls’ Champion, Peyton Costabile (Whistle Bear). Costabile defeated the challenging Stanley Thompson design, to finish the championship with a one-under round and 296 total. Her name will join the likes of Marlene Stewart Streit, Sandra Post, Alena Sharp, and Brooke Henderson on the 1927 Ellis trophy. Claiming the silver medal three-strokes back is Vanessa Borovilos (Weston G&CC), after a round of 76. The bronze medalist, Chaewon Baek (BC Public Player), would fire a total thirteen-over on the championship.
In the post win interview, Costabile expressed “it honestly feels so amazing! I have played this event for four years now and I’ve seen one of my closest friends win it. While I’ve always been near the top, I didn’t play so well last year. I came up this year and I really wanted to win, and I did, so I’m extremely happy.” Through rounds one and two, Costabile was focused on staying level headed and playing her best game to get her as far up on the leaderboard as possible. Round three brought complications of time delays and rushing through holes, which lead to missed putts. In the final round, Costabile says she “just went out there and tried to have the best time. Emily McKee, Nyah Kelly, and I made it a great day and had a bunch of fun.”
Reflecting on the tournament, Costabile’s strongest part of the four rounds was her putting. “I made a lot of putts and my mental game just really kept me in it. I could’ve lost myself a couple of times, but I just stayed level headed and positive.” Peyton Costabile will be competing next at the 2021 Ontario Women’s Amateur Championship at Pointe West Golf Club in Windsor. In closing, she wished to “thank all the Golf Ontario volunteers and staff for running a great tournament this week.”

Whitchurch-Stouffville, ON – Once again, the Ontario Senior Women’s Championship, presented by Durham Artificial Grass from Spring Lakes Golf Club (North Course), started under pristine conditions. The temperature quickly rose and so did the play of leader Judith Kyrinis, recording her best score of the week and claiming the 2021 title by a whopping 14 strokes.
The now four-time Ontario Senior Women’s Champion, Judith Kyrinis (The Thornhill Club), fired a tournament best 4-under (67) including 4 birdies and no bogeys. 2020 Champion Terrill Samuel (Weston G&CC) finished second after a 3-over (74) to claim silver, while third was taken by Marion Reid (Islington GC) with a 7-over (78).
During her post win interview, Kyrinis commented that since “coming from Covid, this feels like I’ve won it for the first time again, so it’s kind of special. It feels like I haven’t won for a while.” When asked about her scores going down each day, Kyrinis added that “the putter finally came alive, it was a little bit in hibernation…, I’ve been hitting the ball really well and when the putter finally woke up the scores starting getting lower.”
Awards for the 2021 Ontario Senior Women’s Championship were also presented through both a Championship flight and an “A” flight. The Championship flight saw awards for the Overall Champion, as well as a champion aged 60 years and older. In the “A” flight, there was both a gross and net champion.
Samuel claimed first place in the 60 years and older category. Cindy Wegg (Rockway Vineyards) clinched first in the Stroke Play Gross – A Flight category, while Lolly Gillen (Bayview G&CC) took home first in the Stroke Play Net division.

Brockville, ON – As we prepare for the final round tomorrow, moving day heated up at Brockville Country Club for round three of the Ontario Junior (U19) Girls’ Championship. With the top 42 junior girls in the province competing in the final 36-holes, the leaderboard witnessed a lot of movement and positions have really tightened up at the top.
With eleven girls sitting at the top within a ten-stroke difference, the leaderboard is shaping up to for a thrilling final round. The leader heading into the remaining 18-holes of competition is Vanessa Borovilos (Weston G&CC), after a one-over round (73). Round two leader Chaewon Baek (BC Public Player), has fallen to second just one-stroke off the leader. Holding a tie in third, two strokes off Borovilos, is Krystal Li (Summit G&CC) and Peyton Costabile (Whistle Bear GC). Low round of the day goes to Tara O’Connor of Victoria Park East Golf Club, who’s shot the lowest round of the championship so far at even-par (72).
Following today’s round, the current leader Borovilos, said that “I felt like I played pretty consistent. The course is definitely very strategic, so you have to place it in the right spots.” The 2018 Ontario Peewee Girls’ Champion isn’t looking to switch anything up heading into the final round, noting with a big smile, “I’m just going to try to keep doing what I’m doing and we’ll see what happens.”
A 2021 Ontario Junior (U19) Girls’ Champion will be crowned tomorrow, following the 7:30 a.m. tee-off. Golf Ontario has updated its COVID-19 protocols to reflect that spectators and coaches are now allowed at all events, permitting capacity limits of the host club. Whitechurch-Stouffville, ON – Round two of the Ontario Senior Women’s Championship, presented by Durham Artificial Grass, from Spring Lakes Golf Club (North Course) teed off in a similar fashion to round one, under beautiful clear skies. Players were looking to make some moves heading into the final round scheduled for Thursday at 8am.
Leading after the 36 holes is three-time Ontario Senior Women’s Champion, Judith Kyrinis (The Thornhill Club) after shooting a stellar 2-under (69) including 4 birdies. 2020 Champion Terrill Samuel (Weston G&CC) sits seven shots back after a 4-over (76). Helene Chartrand (Summerlea Golf Club) sits in third 12 strokes behind after a solid 3-over (75) second round. Fourth and fifth place positions are respectfully held by Marion Reid (Islington GC) at +17, and 2008 and 2009 Champion Ivy Steinberg (Granite GC) at +19 (161).
Awards for the 2021 Ontario Senior Women’s Championship will be presented through both a Championship flight and an “A” flight. The Championship flight will see awards for the Overall Champion, as well as a champion aged 60 years and older. In the “A” flight, there will be both a gross and net champion. Due to a field size of 43 competitors, a cut will not be taking place following the second round.
Samuel sits first in the 60 years and older category while Julie Girard (The Thornhill Club) and Lolly Gillen (Bayview G&CC) sit atop the leaderboard for the Stroke Play Net – A Flight category. Girard sits alone in first in the Stroke Play Gross division.

Brockville, ON – As the weather continues to impress at Brockville Country Club, it looks like competitors have grasped the difficulty of the course. With lower scores in round two at the 2021 Ontario Junior (U19) Girls’ Championship, a new leader has emerged.
Shooting just one over-par to move into the leader position is Chaewon Baek (BC Public Player), with a total of 148 heading into round three. Round one’s leader, Krystal Li (Summit G&CC), has fallen to fifth following a couple of tough double bogey holes. Currently holding second with a round of 74 is Peyton Costabile (Whistle Bear GC), with Alessandra Nagayo (Public Player) and Vanessa Borovilos (Weston G&CC) following behind in a tie for third (150). Nagayo had a consistent round firing 75, while Borovilos took the low round of the day with an even-par.

The inaugural Ontario Senior Women’s Championship was conducted in 1962 and since then has been contested annually featuring the province’s best female amateurs age 50 and over.
The event has had several notable past champions including World, Canadian and Ontario Golf Hall of Fame member Marlene Stewart Streit, who captured the title six times. Also, Canadian and Ontario Golf Hall of Famer Gayle Borthwick, who also picked up the trophy six times. Recent winners include Ivy Steinberg (2008 and 2009), Terrill Samuel (2011) as well as Golf Ontario Hall of Fame members Mary Ann Hayward (2010, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2019) and 2017 USGA Senior Women’s Amateur Champion Judith Kyrinis (2016, 2017, 2018).

Brockville, ON – A chilly summer morning greeted round one of the Ontario Junior (U19) Girls’ Championship, as play got underway at 7:30 a.m.. While the temperature increased throughout the day at Brockville Country Club,so did the players scores. The General Manager of Brockville CC, Jason Walmark, warned players of the difficulty of the course and the leaderboard was a true sign that players must be strategic off the tee.
The Stanley Thompson designed held up as all competitors finished with scores over par, with the leader of the pack, Krystal Li (Summit G&CC), completing the first round of competition with two over-par (74). Trailing just one-stroke off at 75 is Chaewon Baek (BC Public Player), Alessandra Nagayo (Public Player), and Peyton Costabile (Whistle Bear Club) in a three-way tie for second. Isabel Noot of Rattlesnake Point Golf Club holds fifth just two-strokes behind the leader, as a group of T6 follows closely behind.

About The Ontario Junior (U19) Girls’ Championship
First contested in 1927, the Ontario Junior (U19) Girls’ Championship features Ontario’s best amateur female golfers age 18 and under. The event consists of 72 holes of stroke play competition. The championship has a rich history of young Ontarians who have gone on to have successful golf careers, such as World Golf Hall of Fame member Marlene Stewart Streit (1951, 1952). Other notable winners include, Sandra Post (1965, 1966), Sue Hilton (1962), Alena Sharp (1997, 1998), Jessica Shepley (2001), Jennifer Kirby (2008, 2009), and Brooke Henderson (2011, 2012).

Uxbridge, ON – First conducted in 1962, the Ontario Senior Women’s Championship will host its 59th championship at Canada’s only private 54-hole golf course. Hosted by the beautiful Spring Lakes Golf Club (North Course), this year’s championship will welcome the provinces best Senior Women golfers from August 3rd to 5th.
The North Course at the private club located in Whitchurch-Stouffville “is a great parkland-style course, as are all three golf courses here,” explained Head Professional and PGA of Ontario member, Shayne Dysart. “We are the largest private club in the country and the beauty of this property is phenomenal. It certainly has the ability to present itself in a manner making it difficult to score. You’ll have to hit some very precise shots into the greens in order to give yourself a chance to scorelow.” When discussing the conditions of the course, Dysart commented that “the course is in great shape right now. The greens are nice and smooth as we aerated them a couple of weeks ago, and they’ve been top-dress rolled so they’ll be in wonderful shape and rolling very true.”
This championship will see several returning Ontario Champions competing for another shot at the provincial title. Terrill Samuel (Weston G&CC), the 2021 Ontario Senior Women’s Champion, will be in attendance, along with five-time champion Mary Ann Hayward (St. Thomas G&CC) and three-time champion Judith Kyrinis (Thornhill G&CC).
Awards for the 2021 Ontario Senior Women’s Championship will be presented through both a Championship flight and an “A” flight. The Championship flight will see awards for the Overall Champion, as well as a champion aged 60 years and older. In the “A” flight, there will be both a gross and net champion, as well as a champion aged 70 and older. Due to a field size of 43 competitors, a cut will not be taking place following the second round.
